Rachael’s Designacake Expands Horizons
In May 2009, I extended my business operations with the purchase of an exclusive cake business at Darwin’s world famous Mindil Beach Sunset Market. The location is the picturesque Mindil Beach foreshore between Skycity Casino and Darwin High School. A beautiful location that allows us to witness the evening sun in its full majesty setting over the Timor Sea against the distant horizon. Its a powerful experience and simply amazing. We are so blessed to be part of it . I keep pinching myself. I’m so lucky to live in the best place ever. Makes me so glad to be a local. And this divine spot next to the beach is simply heavenly for everyone to enjoy Rachael’s market café dessert cakes.
A bit of a story goes with this. Shortly after I began Rachael’s Designacake, a few years ago I tried to join the Mindil Beach Sunset Market but was told by the Administrators “there is no room for another cake business”. After several years and lots of disappointments still no luck. Guess it wasn’t my time. All this changed in May 2009 when Mum told me the Mindil Beach Sunset Market, market cafe dessert cake business was up for sale. I excitedly took the details, contacted the owner and the rest is history. Its just so true about “good things come to those who never stop trying”. I feel as though my dream to operate my cake business at the Mindil Beach Sunset Market finally tumbled from the skies right into my lap and I have been given the opportunity to promote, share and showcase my creativeness, talents and cake-making gifts for all to see and enjoy.
Market Café Dessert Cakes is like a dream. Even though we’ve only been at the Mindil Beach Sunset Markets for a short time its as though we’re part of the furniture. Like we’ve always been part of the scenery. Everyone at the market is so generous, encouraging and supportive.
I’m at the Mindil Beach Sunset Market each Thursday from 4.00pm to 10.00pm. throughout the dry season to the end of October when the market operates. Thursday is the main market day with upwards of 10 thousand people and we have visitors from around the world inspecting the wares and enjoying themselves. So it’s a great fun place to eat out, enjoy and socialize with a sprinkling of local musicians entertaining against nature’s beautiful background and the setting sun. I could be wrong but I don’t believe there’s anything else close to this in the Southern Hemisphere.
With such a huge through-put of people visiting the market it’s a dream to advertise and promote Rachael’s DesignaCake. I’m so fortunate to meet brides to be with their partners or family and friends or others who want a special celebration cake for a birthday, anniversary or to honour someone. I love a challenge and I make cakes for all occasions.
Each time I come away from the market I feel so motivated, passionate and empowered to keep striving to make the best cakes ever. I feel so grateful for being in the best business for me. I truly believe my childhood dreams are beginning to materialise.
